Kira earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from Connecticut College in 2018. During her studies she lived in both Peru and Panama learning about ecosystems and food systems in Latin America. Once returning to Missouri, Kira began her work with Missouri Rural Crisis Center (MRCC) as a rural organizer for family farmers working to support local, diversified farms and communities. Her work with MRCC led to the creation of her first book Growing the Local Food Chain Recipe Book: In the Kitchen, On the Farm, and Everywhere in Between. With an interest in farm education and food access, she has held several positions running farm camps for youth. Prior to MRCC, Kira served as the education manager at KC Farm School in Kanas City, Kansas. Recently she helped establish a farm camp program at The Mother Farm in Columbia. At the Center, Kira assists with many aspects of communications, event coordination, technical assistance, and field activities.
