Dr. Andria Caruthers is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry. She earned her PhD in Natural Resources from the University of Missouri in 2024. Her doctoral research examined the drivers of perennial crop adoption, market participation, and the spatiotemporal dynamics of agroforestry adoption across the U.S. Corn Belt.

Dr. Caruthers’s research and extension interests center on the adoption, commercialization, and enterprise development of emerging tree crops and other agroforestry systems. Her work emphasizes stakeholder-engaged research that addresses the social, economic, and logistical factors influencing whether agroforestry systems can be successfully integrated into working lands and translated into viable opportunities for producers. She is particularly interested in market development, postharvest systems, processing infrastructure, and enterprise decision support for small- and medium-sized farms.

Since joining the Center for Agroforestry in 2024, Dr. Caruthers has contributed to the Center’s education and outreach efforts, evaluated agroforestry design plans, and supported the establishment of agroforestry demonstration sites, including work at The Nature Conservancy’s Missouri River Center in Huntsdale, Missouri. Her long-term goal is to lead an integrated research and extension program that advances agroforestry adoption and commercialization while supporting more resilient, productive, and economically viable working landscapes.
